The School of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Sydney is seeking to appoint a Mathematician who is internationally recognized as a leading academic in the area of Computational Algebra. The successful candidate will combine a research track record of impactful publications and success in competitive research grants with a solid track record of teaching and experience in supervising higher degree research students.
The successful applicant will take a leadership role in the Computational Algebra group in the School of Mathematics and Statistics. This group is responsible for maintaining and developing the Magma software package, one of the leading computational algebra tools for computations in algebra, number theory, algebraic geometry, and algebraic combinatorics, which has become an essential part of the working lives of mathematicians around the world. The successful applicant will take a leadership role in managing the group and the Magma software within the University, acting as the supervisor of members of the group and working in close cooperation with founding director Professor John Cannon.
