Join statistical data scientists at the National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia (NIASRA), a highly performing UOW research institute with an ERA Ranking of 5 in Statistics (out of 5, well above world standard) on a project funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC): Securing Antarctica’s Environmental Future (SAEF).

This seven-year ARC Strategic Research Initiative is an international research endeavour that will deliver interdisciplinary science to forecast environmental change across Antarctica, the sub-Antarctic, and the Southern Ocean; deploy effective environmental-stewardship strategies in the face of this change; and secure Antarctica as a natural reserve devoted to peace and science (https://arcsaef.com). SAEF’s lead institution is Monash University; Australian partners are based at six universities, two museums, and several government agencies located around the country, including the University of Wollongong (UOW).

You will work closely with members of the Centre for Environmental Informatics in NIASRA on areas that include the development and implementation of regional-climate data fusion, statistical downscaling, ice-sheet model calibration, and studying the effects of present and future climate on biodiversity in Antarctica. This will involve collaboration with researchers from SAEF’s participating universities and research institutions.

You will be prompted to respond to a selection-criteria questionnaire as part of the application process. For further information about this position, please contact Distinguished Professor Noel Cressie at: ncressie@uow.edu.au
