This is a great project for a student who is interested in applying their mathematical/statistical/data science skills for real-world impact. The aim is to develop guidelines for marine ecology research groups to optimally schedule their reef revisits to better understand the dynamics of reef recovery. The main motivation is to develop deeper insight into reef recovery that will better inform how we manage the Great Barrier Reef’s ecosystems to mitigate the negative effects of climate change. There could also be an opportunity to work with collaborators at the Australian Institute of Marine Sciences (AIMS) as part of the project.
